Bellydancing Thoughts

Hello There My Lovelies,

So, a few weeks ago I wrote about how I took a class from a male bellydancer, Tito. He couldn't even speak much English, yet he was the best teacher that I've ever had. You know why ? He doesn't dance to choreography. He dances from his heart, and it just oozes out of him. He always smiles and it's just so contagious.

I was just watching him on You Tube and it doesn't get tired. He really is my inspiration for dance. I never thought I would find that in a male bellydancer.

I remember when I took his workshop. I was so drawn to him. I don't know about him personally, but when he danced I melted and fell in love. I don't know how to describe it. And when I danced I came alive and my hips loosened up, and I was able to follow his lead. And I danced for a good three hours. It was a workout, and I was happy as peach pie after.

I was so lucky as a dancer to have that experience.

The funny thing, is that I didn't think that there was a woman that could outdance him, but I think I found one. Her name is Saida and she is Argentinian. Her dance style is completely different than that of Tito, but I love her too. I guess I am a little more biased and love Tito more because of his radiant smile and because he's Egyptian, and it's in his blood.

But Saida is a close second. She dances with such fire and passion. She has beautiful, long hair and uses that to her advantage with her spins. I would love to study under her someday too.

Anyway, enough about that for now.

Updates

Hello There My Lovelies,

So yesterday I broke down and talked to my roommate. I told him as calmly and as nicely as possible that I was sick of living there and that I was pissed off with the way he was treating me. We talked it out for a few hours. I still think that expecting me to now pay for utilities because he decides to quit his second job isn't fair. If I had two jobs and were to quit one of them, he wouldn't give me a break on rent. It's not like he's gonna charge me an extra $40. He would be charging me an extra $75-85 a month.

So while I still plan to look around for another place, I am no longer in a huge rush to do it. Which is a relief. I am real busy with school now. My teacher has a lot of reading and writing, not to mention ridiculous research projects at the law library that will be coming up.

I think that I am getting used to the horrific traffic that I deal with on the way to school every morning. It normally takes me 15 minutes to drive there. But with this traffic, it takes me over an hour. I haven't had to deal with that in over a year.

Well, it's time for me to mosey on over to work. Ciao Ciao :)

Never A Dull Moment

Hello There My Lovelies,

School started again yesterday. I circled the parking lot for about 40 minutes yesterday to find a parking spot. I finally found one, but it was a staff parking space. I didn't see the sign till I got outta my car. But too bad, because I wasn't gonna be late for class.

My class starts at 10:30 in the morning. I left at 7:15 this morning to get to school to find good parking. Traffic was a little over an hour, for what normally is a 15 minute drive.

What else............. Yes I was woken up at around 6am to the sound of my roommates old father taking a massive dump. It was disgusting. I heard this old man grunting and dropping deuces. The bathroom wall is shared by by my bedroom. I think he left the bathroom door open, because I heard him loud and clear.

And while he was doing his business, I heard his girlfriend downstairs coughing. I was not a happy camper this morning.

I had to go into the bathroom to brush my teeth after he was done, and it smelled like ripe, old man.

I am fed up. I am looking really fast to get outta there. I will write more about this later, as I have class to go to. My only hope to get my certificate so I can find a better job and not put up with roommate bullshit.

Hookah Lounge Time

Hello There My Lovelies,

So last night I went to a nice hookah lounge and smoked an apple flavored hookah. I also had a little appetizer. Fun times. I definitely want to go back.

Hello All,

I am glad that my previous two postings were happy or inspirational because right now I am not feeling happy at all.

Recently I feel like I have been turned inside-out. While I am very blessed in life, and am lucky to have my health and family member, I guess I am just very uncomfortable in life right now.

For starters I need to move out, but I am trapped. Rents are increasing everywhere. So naturally my roommate wants to increase my rent by $75/month to cover the cost for utilities.

He also wants to move in his girlfriend and her two year old son. If they move in, my rent won't increase. That child has ADD and is a real cryer. I would rather spend the extra $75/month on rent instead of having two more people move in.

Did I mention that we also have two Mexicans that live in the backyard in a parked van ?

In our house we just have one bathroom, and imagine the traffic we would have if this woman and her son move in.

My roommate said that if I say no, he won't let her move in, but I see that he really wants to move her in. I see such a problem with it.

They've only been going out for two months. He says she'll stay with him until she finds a better place. They want to move in together. She would be living with us for a long time. Plus, what if they fight ? I don't want the drama. I don't want to wake up to the sounds of that child, and I don't want to wake up to the bathroom, as my room is next to it.

Oh.......and get this. I had late night company on Friday night. I almost never have guests over at my house. But I did on Friday. The last time that happened was last November. He makes a big stink out of it, because I brought someone home so late on a Friday. Also because his girlfriend both of the children were over and he didn't even warn me. I was so mortified the next day. On Halloween, he brought over some girl and had wild monkey sex and I had to listen to it. Did I make a stink ? Negativo. I let him take care of business. And the one time I have a guest over, boom, we have to discuss it extensively and he decides to question who I bring over.

I can not believe that he so willing to move her in so he can "save money" but won't decrease my rent at all. I can't believe that he thinks that all this is a good idea.

I am also so frustrated with my job. It pays well for what little I do. But I need a better job. I need more money. I have very little luck in people returning my calls. I have excellent grades and references, and some good experience. Yet it is so difficult to get a decent entry level position in the legal field.

Plus my job switched me to a lower-grade health insurance plan.

I feel like my priveleges in life are slowly being revoked, and I am starting to get hit with more problems. I am afraid of what else is to come. I know that when it rains, it can pour.

I feel like my life is all wrong and upside down. I feel stuck, I question everything, and I feel like nothing I do matters anymore. I just feel like nothing is right anymore.

Last year was a bad year, but this time around, I am hit with a different type of pain. Last time I felt trapped, and depressed. This year I feel like I have more control over my situation and that I am doing what I can to better myself. Yet everything I do is met with delay, rejection, plans falling through, or opportunities that just happened to pass me by.

Last year, I gained weight and felt lifeless. This time around, the pain is in my heart, and I feel like I am going through a heartbreak, when this isn't about men. I just feel like I have almost failed myself in life.

I have some idea of why this is all happening to me. I am a little spiritual, and I am thinking about starting another journal to talk about all this in detail. But for now, I will talk about it here.

'To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did.'

When God takes something from your grasp, He's not punishing you, but merely opening your hands to receive something better.

Concentrate on this sentence...  'The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.'

Little Updates

Hello There My Lovelies,

Today I went the park to celebrate my boss's granddaughter's birthday. She turned 6. I actually had a nice time. Usually I feel out of place at a child's birthday party. But my boss made me feel welcome and the children were all well behaved. Plus the other people there were nice.

It was held at a park and I went on the swings. I haven't been on a swing in at least ten years. It was like I was a kid again and I went really high. It kinda made me a little sick to my stomach, especially since I had just eaten a couple of hot dogs, but it was still fun. Over all a nice day.

Other than that, I don't have much else to report. School will be starting in a couple of weeks. I am also sending out my resume to some jobs. Right now I still don't have my paralegal certificate and I am still in school. That makes getting a fulltime paralegal position difficult for various reasons: 1.) I don't have my paralegal certificate yet 2.) I am still in school and can't fully commit myself to a fulltime job with overtime.

Sending out my resumes is never fun. There is a lot of preparation, and I have to custom-tailor my cover-letter to each company. Some companies require references and writing samples. All of this is just to have a chance to even have an interview. Usually I don't get called back, and I feel like all this work was done for nothing. But it is still a chance, and I guess that is good enough for now.

And Today I was Brought Back to Life...........

Hello All,

Today I went to a bellydance workshop with Tito Seif, an Egyptian male bellydancer. This guy is amazing, and the best teacher I've ever had hands-down. We danced for three hours and I wasn't tired, and did not find him boring. I would travel all the way to Egypt just for the chance to learn under him again. I hope that I get that chance again someday. Luckily I didn't have to travel this time around, as he came to my town.

He doesn't speak English and mainly taught us through movements. He was able to count up to eight, say "left, right", tell us to smile, and smiled and told us that all women are beautiful. There were no mirrors either. But I was lucky and had a spot right in front of him, so I could mimic his moves. He oozes passion with each of his moves. The reason I love watching him is because he keeps the dance cultural, and does not dance like a woman. He wears traditional garb that men wear, and keeps his moves masculine. I do not like watching men bellydance like women. Somehow Tito manages to retain his manhood while bellydancing. And he says that he does that on purpose when he dances.

I fell in love with the whole experience. His moves were true to his culture, and he kept smiling the whole time and told his to smile. I also loved that he sang along to the music while he was smiling and dancing. It was easy for me to dance to his routines because he taught by example, not choreography. I feel like I'm functionally retarded when I have to dance according to choreography. He dances by listening to the music, not strictly by choreography. I dance best when I just listen to the music and move.

I was kinda glad that there weren't any mirrors, that way I could not judge myself. While I was mimicking his moves, I felt like I came alive. I was smiling the whole time, and my hips loosened up. I was able to shimmy as much as he did. I was able to do all the spins he did, and follow his lead. Usually I find myself tensing up after a few minutes. Today I felt like I could walk into a room and do any shimmy or twirl.

I also had a school-girl crush on him. I was embarrassed and tried to hide it, but I flirted with him a little, so did the other women, haha. But he was so friendly and smiled a lot and I couldn't help it. I also got my picture taken with him.

There were a lot of other women there, and it was nice to run into some that I already knew, but haven't seen in a long time. One of the women was my teacher, and a couple other recognized me from other performance events. The bellydance community is small, so you tend to run into the same people after a while. But everyone was nice, and one of the girls next to me helped me with some of my moves. She was really good.

Anyways, I just had to write about this, because I felt really happy today. I felt like I came alive again, and that this is what true happiness feels like, and I should feel like this every day. Isn't that what God intended ? For us to feel so happy and alive that we no longer care about what others think ? That we no longer think that anything is wrong with us ? I totally fell in love with Tito's attitude and dance style and was lucky to learn under him and discover that I can move like he does if I just allow myself to open up and practice more. This is really what makes me happy in life, and I am lucky that I discovered bellydance early on in life.

And here is a picure of him and his smile that inspired me to smile more while I dance. You'd be amazed at how many bellydancers simply do not smile.

A

Hello There my Lovelies,

I am gonna make this real short and sweet. I just got my grade back from my Legal Analysis class and I got an A !!!!! I can not believe it. I thought I was gonna get a B for sure !! I can't believe that I actually pulled off an A !! I was juggling my job and internship with this intensive class (along with my social life).

I have three legal classes left until I am eligible for my certificate. I hope that I can pull off good grades until the end.

San Felipe Neri Square

civil war by txotxo.loko.

Hello All,

The picture above is one that I swiped off Flicker. Someone else took it. This shot is of  one of my favorite hangout spots in Barcelona. This is called San Felipe Neri Square, located in the Gothic Quarters, known as El Barrio Gotico. The doors the couple is standing in front of is sometimes painted with different murals, and these doors belong to a Baroque Cathedral.

This area was once part of the Jewish quarters and was built upon an old Jewish cemetary. This is situated in El Barrio Gotico, which is always bustling with tourists, and this little area is kind of hidden, forgotten and therefore peaceful. People are usually too busy shopping or looking at something else to notice this little hole in the wall. I hear that it is has recently been filled with beggars, people on drugs and tourists that like to piss on the walls. But, you know what ? That is really the whole city of Barcelona anyway. So, I guess in comparison to the busier parts of town, this place is more peaceful.

I remember when I was first taken here during my stay in July of 2004. A Catalan guy who was moving to Holland and needed me for English lessons took me here. I felt an instant connection here. I felt like I was going back in time. It is reminiscent of another era. The Spanish Civil War to be exact. When I stopped by, I liked to sit by the old fountain and listen to the water trickle out. In the fountain, I could see the tiles that were falling apart, and imagined what they looked like when the fountain was in good condition. Once in a while there would be someone strumming on a guitar, and I loved listening to the music with the trickle of the fountain in the background, while looking at the architecture of the cathedral and thinking about the action this place has been through.

This place has had an unfortunate past. In the walls you can see the damage that was done from the shrapnel as well as bullet holes. I was told that the Cathedral was used as an orphanage during the Spanish Civil War, and children were killed by a bomb. I was also told that people were lined up against the wall and shot at.

Further to the right is a shoe museum. And almost directly behind where the photographer who shot this is standing is a nice high-end hotel. It opened up when I was there in the summer of 2004. I would love to stay there, if I had the chance. In fact, if I ever make more money or get married, I would love this to be where I stay. Whichever comes first.

There is a lot to do in Barcelona. A lot of famous places to visit, many of them crowded and charge a price. Some of the best places and things to see for me were free.

In fact, I have pictures from the day that I came here to the square. I can't copy them here for some reason, so I will just provide you with my old journal entry with the pictures. In fact, in the entry below, I said that I would dedicate an entire entry to this sqaure. I guess I finally did it four years later. Enjoy :)

Internship Stuff

Hello There My Lovelies,

Today I was at my internship, and I got free food ! Yay ! There was a meeting and after there were a bunch of left overs. I had some sushi, fruit salad, garlic bread and cake. And the cake was sugar free ! It was good too, I didn't know that it was sugar free. Yummy !

I love it when they have yummy left over food !

I am usually in my boss's office all day, and I don't usually get a chance to talk to others. But I gotta say that there are a lot of hot attorneys and interns. RAWR ! Even the air conditioning mechanic is hot, lol.

When I walked back to the parking lot yesterday, I saw a cat (not the one I blogged about before). This cat was black and white and was chilling out underneath the dumster. I think it was a she, but I can't be sure.

She was so precious. She came out and circled my knees while I pet her. She even climbed on my lap and let me hug and pet her. She would even lick me (like a dog) and put her nose close to my face. Then she layed down, and she let me lavish her with attention. She particularly liked it when I stroked her neck. She was purring, and we were both sitting in the shade and enjoying the moment. I wished that I also had a glass of lemondade, and some cat food for her.

Today while I was walking back to my car, I didn't see that cat. I was approached by a guy instead. He was throwing my a bunch of pick-up lines my way. (I wore a short skirt) And he wasn't bad looking either. Turns out he works at the jail, lol. I asked him if he really just got out of jail. haha.

Speaking of which, my boss took me to the courthouse for the first time to search for records. We went to the Hall of Justice, usually where the criminal cases are heard. It was a nice walk and I am learning the ropes.

I also learned that the uniformed officers that work the checkpoint are HAWT !! And I caught one checking me out. I guess we were playing a game of hide-and-go-check-me-out.  I was trying to look like I was talking to my boss while I was secretly checking him out. But every time I looked at him, he was looking back at me.

Maybe my boss will send me to go fetch some more records. It's highly unlikely though, because we're getting caught up fast.

Anywho, enough useless chattering about boys. Too bad the summer is coming to an end................

Stuff White People Like

Hello Again,

http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/full-list-of-stuff-white-people-like/

There is a book out called Stuff That White People Like, along with a copy of that list. You can click on the link to read more individual details on each number.

I hate to admit it, but this list is pretty accurate, at least for the white population here in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I used to volunteer in Palo Alto in a legal aid organization with mainly whites. Those people fit the profile of this list, almost to a tee : Ivy Leagues Schools, internships, yoga, facebook, study abroad, hating corporations, loving Apple, driving a Prius, and wanting to vote for Obama, while bashing bush and putting down the US.

I have more opinions on this as well as my fellow whites but I won't go any further.

Oh, my white friend pointed this book out and we both had a chuckle about it.

There are so many books about what black people like, or books stereotyping them. Books that categorize Latinos.

It's about time whites got a book like this. And I thought it was hilarious.
