A Short Entry

Hello There My Lovelies.........

I am gonna keep this short.

Today I went to my friend's house for dance practice. She has a beautiful dance studio in the back of her house with a nice wooden floor. I practiced for about a couple of hours. I am slowly making progress with my routine. At first, I was frustrated, but now things are getting a little better. I don't consider myself to be a normal dancer. I feel that my style is a little different which I noticed a couple of years after I started bellydance, but it works for me. In fact over time , I learned that each bellydancer has her own style. I also consider myself different because I work best without dance choreopraphy. People tend to love my dancing better when I improvise. I tend to be a little slow and even a little clumsy when it comes to choreography.

While I was practicing, my friend sold me her blue skirt that I've had my eyes on for a while now. She sold it to me cheaply, and I loved it because it is great with spinning. It also makes my waist look smaller, and what woman doesn't want that ?Plus it is layered and you can hold the first layer or tuck in the sides of the skirt in your hip belt to create a more dramatic look.

I also wanted to say that I am starting to like opera. This is a sure sign that I am getting older. I used to hate opera and think that most classical music is boring(my mother does not like that about me) but now I think I am starting to come around. Does this mean that I am getting old or does this mean that I am becoming more mature ? I will keep telling myself that I am just gaining more substance, lol.

Anywho, that is about all. I must go and work on my assigngment tomorrow. It's a legal reasoning assignment which I simply have no energy for, but it needs to get done.

How To Speak Landlord

Hello Again,

So I was perusing the Rants and Raves Section on Craigs List and I found a post where this guy from Santa Cruz enlightens us all on how to speak "landlord" based on his previous experiences of renting from landlords in his area. It is very interesting, and I found about 95% of what he said to be true. Kinda unfortunate if you ask me, but such is life.

As you know, I moved out last month. I put an ad up on Craigs List and advertised that I was looking for a roommate either male or female. It took me about two weeks until my current roommate contacted me. Until then, I talked to a few people and saw one other place. I was happy for this to be done relatively quickly.

I remember when I was looking for a new place to live back in November 2006. I didn't actually end up finding a new place until February of 2007, and even then it wasn't a good fit. I just moved in because I felt it was doable, and I wouldn't find anything better. It was frustrating, because people post ads about themselves and their rooms for rent, but you really never know what you are dealing with until you actually meet the person and see the room. At that time, I looked at a lot of rooms, and talked to many people. A couple of people flaked on me, a few of the places were too expensive, one genius put up a picture of one room and showed me a different room.

Anyway, here is a copy from the posting I found yesterday. Enjoy !

*I like everything in its place...........................................I have control issues

Also keep in mind:

There are always exceptions.

Landlords are usually honest when describing the type of roommate they want, but are usually unknowingly dishonest when describing the type of roommate/landlord they are. Hence this post.

When asking her/him what kind of landlord/roommate they are, pay very close attention to the very first things they say. For example, if the first thing you hear is how non-judgmental they are...smile, say thank you and move on to the next place.

Male landlords/roommates are *usually* easier to deal with than females.

Always request receipts (written or not). If the landlord gets touchy or whiny, this is a red flag.

If they speak *in detail* about past roommates, whether it be positive or negative, this is also a red flag.

Do not assume you are going to get your deposit back, even though you left the place in perfect condition.

You have the legal right to install a key lock on your door, as long as you give the landlord a copy of the key.

Do not assume that others will follow the Golden Rule just because you do.

Good luck and God help you.

Black Friday Hell

Hello There my lovelies,

So next week is Thanksgiving, and I am excited about that. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year because I get to see my family in Mendocino, and also because it is close to my birthday. I am thankful for every year that I am able to make it up there to see them.

Christmas, on the other hand is not my favorite holiday. America has turned it into a commercial hell. It's all about consumerism, decorating, blaring Christmas music and buying gifts, and eating which results in weight gain. While I don't mind the decorations, I wonder how people can stand Christmas jingles over and over from their workplace to the market.

Don't get me wrong, I love to shop, and I like new things just as much as everyone else, but I really think we've made a mockery of a holiday where we're supposed to cherish our family and friends above everything else.

I've been watching the news about Black Friday, and although I tend to be on the frugal side and like to clip coupons, there is no way I am going to stand in line at 3am for a discount. Especially the day after Thanksgiving when I am tired and feel bloated as hell from the day before from all the food. People will stand outside in the cold for a couple of hours, and I don't get it. No discount is going to make me want to try and avoid being trampled by bitchy people who are probably tired from not sleeping the night before, standing in line for a while, and not eating. I've never participated in a Black Friday yet, but I have heard about the fights that break out and how people create a stampede, how fights break out when items are sold out......... it's ridiculous to me how out of control people can get over the latest gadget or toy. Makes me really not want to deal with people in general. Thank GOD I am no longer in retail. I feel for all you out there that actually have to work this godforsaken day.

I love to shop, but I like to shop when the stores aren't busy, and I like to be creative and try and find bargains at all times of the year. In my opinion, you don't need a Black Friday to find the greatest deals if you are on a budget. Due to the economy I am definitely on a budget with the gifts I buy and make sure I don't go over a certain amount.

On another not, I got an A on my Criminal Law midterm. Since that is done, I now have another project that is due on Monday. Lovely.

Monday, November 17, 2008

I almost forgot to add..................

Hello All,

Okay, so I was so wrapped up in talking about my experiences at ERAC that I forgot to give you the 411 on my studies.

-I took a midterm last week in Criminal Law, and we are still awaiting the results. BUT, my teacher did tell me that I have the highest score on that midterm. That is a scary thought because I know that I got a few wrong, so if I am the highest scorer, then what does that say about the rest of the class ? We shall see..... But I am happy that my score was the highest.

-My teacher is gonna assign a project over Thanksgiving break in my Family Law class. Way to really make me feel warm and fuzzy over the holidays. Earlier this quarter we had to do a prenuptial agreement. Now for the project, I will be working on a dissolution, aka divorce. But technically speaking, divorce in CA doesn't exist any longer, as CA is a no fault state. Anyway though, I will try and crap this out before the break hits.

I remember last year before I went to see my family for Thanksgiving. My teacher assigned us a long take home midterm over the break. I stayed up late the night before I left on my road trip to crap out that midterm. And it was sufficient enough, as I got a B.

The quarter will be over in less than a month. My finals will be here before I know it. Next quarter will be my last so that I can finally get my certificate and look for a job in a law firm.

Working For Enterprise Rent A Car

Hello There My Lovelies,

As you probably already know, I used to work at Enterprise Rent A Car aka ERAC, which I also sometimes like to refer to as ECRAP or EFUCK.

I was visiting a website called www.failingenterprise.com. I've been checking up on this site ever since I quit about 2 years ago. I still have nightmares once in a while about renting cars to questionable people.

Anyway, on this website people there can come together and commiserate about the rental experiences that they have had, or former employees can talk about experiences they've had. There are so many disgruntled employees that this website is flourishing. Some of the posts are very juicy.

Below is a cut-and-paste of an "You Know You've Worked At Enterprise When......"
As a bonus, I've added my witty commentary. Enjoy......

In the early stages, you brag about others' paychecks that you've never seen, are quick to answer the phones within one ring, feel priviledged to be given such an awesome business opportunity, look up to your fellow upper management team, shrug off warnings from customers about the reality of your job, believe that you will be making six figures in six years, etc. etc. SO VERY TRUE

After a few months of 60 hour weeks, you begin to discover it was all farce. The opportunites and growth are not really there afterall. Upper management really doesn't make as much money as you thought or were told. The company's retention is atroscious, even though they claim it is average. Soon this begins to ensue:

You begin to lash out at significant others, friends, and family because you are so miserable from your day at work where you got to wash a dozen cars, write a dozen contracts, and listen to a dozen customers complain their cupholders were dirty before asking to be driven home. I NEVER REALLY LASHED OUT AT ANYONE, BUT I WAS TIRED

You begin to question why you even bothered getting excellent grades, working hard, and going to college when your reward was a job in which you were nothing more than a glorified cashier, taxi driver, janitor, and peon for ignorant customers. VERY TRUE, ESPECIALLY SINCE I OWED SO MUCH ON MY STUDENT LOANS

You eat dinner at about 7:30-8:00 every night because you had to stay after work because the body shop that gives your branch one deal a month called two minutes before closing and demanded a car for Mrs. Carter since you were technically still open. VERY TRUE, I USED TO BE SENT ON PICKUPS TWO MINUTES BEFORE CLOSING, AND END UP DRIVING THE CUSTOMER HOME BECAUSE SHE FORGOT HER LICENSE.

You begin to find solace in talking to the car preps in the wash bay because it so much less stressful than being in the office. In fact, you secretly would like their job since they make almost as much as you and don't have to put up with office politics or whiny customers. I USED TO SOMETIMES ENVY THE CAR PREPS

Your own car begins to get dirty because you don't feel like washing the 20th car that day, even if its yours. VERY TRUE, I WAS JUST TOO TIRED TO CLEAN MY CAR

You love when you have to run a car to another office because you know you will no longer have to be answering three calls at once while the customer in front of you impatiently stares you down, while tapping their fingers lightly on the counter. I ALWAYS LOVED TO DRIVE TO ANOTHER BRANCH FOR WHATEVER REASON JUST TO GET OUT OF THE OFFICE, AS DRIVING HELPED PASS THE TIME.

You are grateful that your parents let you move back into your old room after school because you know that you would never be able to afford to move out on your own on your $32,000/year salary (includes overtime, promotion, car sales, recruitment, etc.) HAHA, MY FOLKS NEVER DID SUCH A THING, BUT I WAS LIVING IN A NICE PLACE

You are so motivated to find a new job that you begin asking every customer what they do, where they work, and if they are hiring. THIS IS HOW I GOT MY CURRENT JOB, HAHA. IT TOOK ME A FEW MONTHS, BUT IT FINALLY HAPPENED ! MY AREA MANAGER FOUND OUT AND TOLD ME THAT I SHOULDN'T HIT UP CUSTOMERS FOR NEW JOBS. HAHA, APPARENTLY SOMEONE I CONFIDED IN RATTED ME OUT, BUT WHATEV ! WHEN HE TALKED TO ME, I TRIED TO KEEP A STRAIGHT FACE, BUT ENDED UP GIGGLING A LITTLE.

You begin using flex time, sick days, and vacation to go on interviews hoping that your prospective employer does not invite you to take off your suit coat as it would reveal the the true condition of your white dress shirt complete with dirty wrist and pit stains from those 90 degree days in the wash bay. I COULD NEVER GET THE TIME OFF TO GO ON INTERVIEWS, AS I ALWAYS SPENT MY SICK DAYS ACTUALLY BEING SICK FROM A COLD BECAUSE I WAS WASHING CARS IN COLD WEATHER. I ONCE GOT BRONCHITIS, AND IT WAS NASTY. PLUS, THE HR DEPARTMENT WAS ALWAYS SCANNING SITES LIKE MONSTER TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU WEREN'T POSTING YOUR RESUME AND LOOKING FOR ANOTHER JOB. AND IF YOU DID, MANAGEMENT MADE YOUR PROFESSIONAL LIFE HELL.

After you quit, you are so happy and appreciate your new job more than you would have had you never worked for ERAC. MY CURRENT JOB IS NOT MY DREAM JOB BY ANY STANDARDS, BUT I HAVE IT SO GOOD HERE COMPARED TO ENTERPRISE. I DON'T COMPLAIN, AND I AM ALWAYS WILLING TO GO THE EXTRA MILE FOR MY BOSS AND EMPLOYEES BECAUSE I KNOW THINGS COULD BE WORSE. I HATE IT WHEN MY COWORKERS COMPLAIN.

You feel cheated, abused, and bitter months after you left. You feel compelled to post on this site to warn all the naive college graduates not to work for this terrible company.

You didn't think that I was just gonna stop there, did you ??? As a little extra something for you, I wanted to talk about the interesting things that I've found in our rentals in no particular order......

-Forceps over a plastic bag. It was in a cheap Aveo, our economy car. I have no idea what the hell our customer was doing. Maybe opening up a gynecological clinic on the street ? My boss called the guy and the dude actually came and picked it up.

- One dude rented a Ford Taurus and left it a hot mess. Underneath the seat was a paperbad full of porn. He looked like a conserative Sikh man and all with his turbin. He also had his teenaged daughter in tow. He gave my coworker the evil eye for checking out his daughter.

- Some genius left a bag of panties and viagra under the seat of the Ford F150.

- Of course people would leave 420 pipes. One family with a special needs kid came into my branch one day and told me that a pipe was left behind. She said her disabled kid found it. I was so incredibly lucky that this woman was nice about it. Of course the car prep didn't do a thorough job. I thanked her for being nice, appologized profusely and got her into another car.

- One gem rented a new Chevy malibu from us. This guy returned it with the back seat full of blood. He kept saying that his dog was bleeding. We called the cops on that one and took pictures.

-Customers would barf in our cars. It would suck, because you couldn't get the smell out, and we'd turn around and re-rent it, because it was the last car on our lot and there was a wait. And of course people would come back and complain.

Some other things worth mentioning..............

- I was in two accidents while I was on the job in my two years there. The first time around, I turned left on a green light. The guy misread the lights, and ran his red light and hit me.
-The other time, I got rear ended in a Chevy Cobalt. It was a nice jolt. The woman that rear ended me was in a Chevy Malibu. Her front was all bent up, while I just had a little dent in the back of my bumper. After I returned the car to my branch, the idiots turned around and rerented it to an unsuspecting customer. About a month later, her insurance company called me at work and tried to get me to accept liability for her rear-ending me. My coworker grabbed the phone and told her to talk to our Loss Control Department and to leave me alone.

-My grandma in Austria passed away, and I received the call while I was at work. I took time off to go to Austria for the funeral, but it was useless going home that day because all of my family was overseas. My area manager took me out to lunch. I thought he was trying to make me feel better, but he was really trying to tell me to get over it. On top of that he was trying to discuss ways to improve my sales numbers and improve business at the branch.

-ERAC was recently sued in a class action lawsuit, and I got a piece of the settlement pie.

Okay, so that is all for now. I am sure I will have more to add later......

No More TRL on MTV

Hello There My Lovelies,

Okay, so you may have heard that Fox recently canceled Mad TV. That is just SOOO not cool. I always loved Mad TV over SNL. The skits were more twisted, funnier, and I was a total fan of Ms. Swan. I will miss it all !

Speaking of SNL (Saturday Night Live), I am really sad that Amy Poehler recently left the show. She was one of the last ones around that really cracked me up. Too bad she's gone now. I miss most of the old cast that was around during 2000 and a few years after that. But then people started leaving and I lost track.

But what is really making me sad is MTV cancelling TRL (Total Request Live). It started airing in 1998. I was a junior in high school then and Britney Spears and
N Sync were gaining popularity. Despite her antics, I still like Britney Spears. I've always been a quiet fan of hers. Her songs were always on the playlist.

I actually started watching TRL in 1999 when I moved into the dorms at San Jose State. I would come in after class and watch it in the lounge before I would go to the Dining Commons for dinner. Back then Carson Daly was the host. I stopped watching TRL after I graduated from SJSU and lived in Barcelona. I don't know who the host is now. Besides, I'm not into most of the artists that they have now anyway. Some of the artists that I used to watch all the time up there were Britney Spears, N'Sync, Backstreet Boys, Limp Bizkitt, No Doubt, Eminem, Christina Aguilera, 98 Degrees and Mariah Carey.

I will try to get this last show recorded, as I will be working. I am sad that it's coming to an end, because then that just means that I am getting older. I know that my university days and clubbing days are over, but this show coming to an end just reinforces that I am getting older and that this show (which I loved dearly during those times) must come to an end to make room for newer trends aka the younger crowd.

Would Love Some Sleep

Hello There My Lovelies...................

Okay, so I took my midterm on Thursday morning. I won't know how I did until sometime next week. The night before I was up studying at IHOP. I tell you, when I got there I was huuuungry. I ate chicken soup as an appetizer. For dinner I had a nice sirloin steak with a baked potato, corn, garlic bread..... and for dessert I had chocolate cake. I was so full. But it was delish. I usually try to watch my food portions. But once in a while I can put away large portions with absolutely zero shame.

What else........... It's been a month today since I've been in my new place. My how time flies. I've gotten accustomed to watching a lot of TV and to having my own bathroom. I can't tell how much I enjoy having my own place to do my business without having to share it with some old dude that smelled and used my mouthwash once. ( I knew because his dirty paw prints were on the plastic lid.)

Other than that, nothing much else to report. I should be trying to work out extra hard this weekend to work off that steak dinner I had Wednesday night. I also need to work on my dance routine for next month.

Anywho, I shall have more to report later. :)

I am tired and will be thinking about sleeping soon. ZzZzZzZz............

Middle of the week.......

Hello There My Lovelies,

Just gonna keep this real quick. I had dance practice last night and worked out the moves I will be doing in my routine. Now I just need to practice more and make sure that the transitions between the movements are smooth.

I went to my friend's house last night and she showed a video of me dancing two years ago with my other friend. I was dancing in a nice blue skirt she lent to me. I love that skirt, and she will sell it to me at a nice price, so I will buy it, hopefully this weekend. Nice deep purple flowing skirt. It was interesting to see how I danced two years ago. I have to say that I looked good, and hope that I keep that energy going in my future performances.

What else, I practiced my makeup yesterday, and I also applied false eyelashes. I liked it, but felt that the eyelashes weren't long enough. They were about the length of my normal lashes, and I was going for something more dramatic. Back to the store....

I also discovered the importance of using a primer in your makeup. A primer apparently provides a nice shield between your face and your makeup so that your makeup lasts longer during the day. Normally my face gets oily, so my face gets all greasy. But with a primer, that doesn't happen and my face stays nice and smooth. Why didn't I learn about this sooner ? Google is good for all sorts of things.

Anywho, time to get to my internship. I almost forgot that I have to be there today.

Ciao :)

Happy Veterans Day !!

Hello There My Lovelies.......

Happy Veterans Day ! I got yesterday off at school for Veterans Day, but not today, the actual holiday. Oh well !

If you are in the service, or have been I salute you ! I have a lot of respect for people that are in the military, whether I agree with the battles we fight or not. The service men and women always deserve our full respect and deserve better benefits. I hope that Obama starts pulling out troops out when he gets in office. I have always believed that we should take care of our own first.

I have a midterm coming up in a couple of days and will be studying for that today. I think that I also have dance practice tonite. I will be performing a routine with a couple of other girls in addition to my own. I have the music picked out for my own routine. I think that I will keep it simple and just dance with a veil and include some floorwork. Most bellydancers don't usually get on the floor, so I like to make that my "thing." Maybe some day I will be able to bring the sword back. I miss dancing with my sword :( I just don't have the space to practice with it.

One thing I learned over time in bellydance is that bellydance can be real powerful if you can master the slow movements. I started out doing fast movements, and I still like to do it, but I have taken a stronger liking to the slower movements and music. It forces you to get more in touch with yourself and pay more attention to your body and the audience.

Okay, so I better get back to studying. Ciao Ciao :)

My Six

Hello Again,

No one tagged me, but apparently, people here in the journal community are writing about 6 things about themselves that others don't already know. And I am bored, so what the heck. This should distract me for a little longer.

But, it is difficult, because I talk too much, lol. You already know a lot about me. But let's give it a try.

1.) I once went out with a guy that looked like the actor Doug Savant from Desperate Housewives. I met him while I was working at Enterprise, and we only dated very briefly. He called me up at work after his rental was over to ask me out. It took me over a year to get over him after it ended. I tried so hard to get him out of my head, but nothing worked. It was so hard, but I eventually did it. We still talk once in a blue moon, but I don't have the feelings for him like I used to. He is now like any other person.

2.) I am pigeon-toed. It makes ice skating and bellydance a little more difficult to accomplish.

3.) I have a hard time trusting women unless they are either around my age (they are like me) or senior ladies. It is difficult for me to trust women in their forties to fifties. Senior ladies remind me of my grandmothers who I've admired.

4.)I am missing a tooth. It was a baby tooth that fell out when I was 21 and never grew back.

5.)I love to watch vapid women on TV such as Real Housewives of Atlanta, Paris Hilton's My BFF and Desperate Housewives. I like watching rich, shallow women flaunt their money and complain about their little problems. I sit there, eat chocolate and sometimes wish that I was filthy rich and had the luxury of being dumb and shallow. But then I usually come to my senses after I turn of the TV and thank God that I am in touch with reality.

6.)I tried hypnosis once, but the lady could not hypnotize me. She said that I have a hard time letting people in, and that I have to much control over my mind. Out of all the people she hypnotized, I was the second person who she couldn't help.

I am just too lazy

Hello There My Lovelies,

Okay, so I have another midterm in Criminal Law on Thursday. But I just do not want to study at all. I just can't seem to get focused in my school work. :(

Instead, I have been online looking at tutorials for the sexy bellydancer makeup look or the "Arabic Eye" look. This morning I took inventory of all my makeup supplies. Turns out that I have a nice selection of brushes, and a lot of different colors of eye shadow, so I don't really need to do a whole lot of shopping. I just need to buy a thicker eye pencil, fake lashes and a primer. And maybe a couple of more makeup brushes. There are so many brushes out there, it is so hard to figure out how they should be used. When brushes are sold, they almost never come with instructions on how to use them. So frustrating.

I may be performing next month, so I should be practicing more. I am supposed to go to my friend's house to practice tomorrow morning, but I don't know if that will happen or not. In the mean time, I am trying to perfect the Arabic look with my makeup.

I started practicing today, and it didn't come out bad at all, being my first attempt at this look. The interesting thing is that there are so many different ways to acheive this look. I tried to remember different tutorials that I watched on You Tube. I will keep practicing. With this look, you have to use a lot of makeup to make your eyes stand out. It is a very dramatic look. Me likey a lot.

Bellydancer Eyes

Hello Again My Lovelies......

Check out these videos on You Tube ! Just copy and paste them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXF8kkythMY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rXdXOEg73Q&feature=related

This girl is applying eye makeup Arabic style. When I dance, I love to make my eye make up very dramatic and apply false eyelashes. It's really sexy and it adds to the mystery of the dance. I know some basics, but haven't been able to learn how to apply makeup like this until now.

There are many tutorials on You Tube of how to give yourself Arabic Eyes. The problem though, is it involves different brushes. Many of the girls in the videos show off their expensive brushes, and I don't know where to find their cheaper counterparts. I have one MAC brush and a few Estee Lauder brushes, but they still aren't what the girls in the videos are using ::sigh::

Time for me to take inventory of what I've got and go shopping for the rest. Also, time for me to practice and exercise patience.

My Thoughts On The Election

Hello All,

As you know, I was working as an Election Officer on Tuesday. I was there from 6am until 9pm that evening with only an hour lunch an a 30 minute break. I was working the precint in my old neighborhood. We had 318 voters, 56 provisional voters and about 100 people walk in with absentee ballots. It was definitely high traffic.

I really loathed the training I went to last Friday, but I was pleasantly surprised with the people I worked with on Tuesday. They were really nice and a lot of fun. Plus, I lucked out and worked with smart people. Apparently people in other precincts were messing up provisional and absentee ballots.

There were no poll watchers, and no interest groups posted outside. Probably for good reason since we were set up in a room behind an elementary school. So, it was a very peaceful day. None of us talked about any politics while we were working. We couldn't listen to the news or watch the TV, nothing. It was also nice that none of the voters tried to get all political on us. A couple of people announcing that they came to vote for Obama, but nothing more than that.

The other volunteers I worked with were fun to talk to and we spent a great deal of time joking around. I even made a couple of voters laugh and could see them smirking while they were trying to concentrate on their ballots. A couple of the people were high school students and getting credit, and one lady had volunteered before. The lady that managed us was really nice and bought us coffee and pastries. She did not have to do that, but she did.

One of the other volunteers was kinda cute. The funny thing is that I thought that he was gay at first, but didn't realize that he was straight until he made a couple of comments about my skirt and boots.

So, while it was a very long day (We had to count all of the ballots after and break down the stations)it was still fun. I am glad that I got a chance to do this and participate in a process like this. However, I don't think that I would do it again. We had to work a 15 hour day. It was just too much. I was so worn out.

But I am glad that I did this for this election. It was a historical election for two reasons. We were either going to get a black president, or a female vice president. Being a part of the process made me feel proud to be an American. I remember how homesick I was when I lived in Barcelona for a year. I missed being back home. I used to think that I wanted to be European, since my mom's side lives in Austria. I didn't realize that while I love Europe, I love being an American and and don't listen to people who love to badmouth the US of A. When I was in Barcelona, I realized that I am proud of my country and that while I have close European roots, I am American as apple pie.

It was also nice to see people voting for the first time because they became new US citizens. Parents also brought their children and the kiddies got stickers. I wish my folks would've brought me to the polls when I was a kid.

I have to say that I am so glad that Palin didn't get a shot at being VP. Seriously, I think McCain took a wrong turn when he chose her as his running mate. I like her as a person, but I just could not imagine her running our country.

Now that Obama will be our president, I really hope that he will make good on his promises. I hope that he does a good job, and I hope that he gets us out of the mess that we've gotten ourselves into over the years. It is a huge burden he is taking on his shoulders, but I hope that he has the strength to lead us and make the right decisions.

Election Madness

Hello All,

Okay, so tomorrow is Election Day. I am not looking forward to it, because I will be working as an Election Officer. I will be there from 6am till probably at least 10pm at night. I know that the polls close at 8pm. I also know that a huge turnout is to be expected.

I can't wait until this is over. I live in the Bay Area where being liberal is hip and where many people think that if you don't think like they do that they have the right to berate you for not thinking like them. God forbid if you don't think that Obama is the new hope of our country. You know what I don't like ? All this blind faith in one presidential candidate with not much experience. People actually thinking that he is our answer to all of our problems. I don't think that ANY candidate could solve our problems that we've gotten ourselves into. Not Obama and not McCain. And no matter who we get, that person isn't going to make good on all of his promises. I don't think it's ever happened, nor will it. I don't think any candidate could pull us out of this recession AND improve our health care AND improve our god-awful education system without increasing our taxes.

I am very liberal in some respects, but still conservative in others. Basically, I am still trying to figure out what I really believe in. I am on a search for more information about certain issues. I like to believe that I have an open mind and get different points of view before I arrive at a decision.

I listen to Obama supporters and McCain supporters without question. But I hate it when Obama supporters criticize me for even questioning Obama. One of my coworkers was trying to do reverse psychology on me and tell me "Fine, I think you should just vote for McCain." Haha ! I calmly told him that he as an Obama supporter wouldn't really want me to vote for McCain. I also told him that as a citizen it's my right to get out there and vote for whomever the hell I want, just like he hauled his ass out to vote, and I didn't say anything about his choice in candidate. He was trying to tell me that he did his homework and all his research, blah blah blah. He also told me that I was being lazy for waiting until election day to vote. Haha. I told him that I want to take everything in before I cast my vote on election day. I let him talk and talk. But really, how informed are we really ? Watching the news really doesn't count in my opinion. I think that the media is controlled by a handful. I think that relying only on the media is dangerous and that one shouldn't let the media think for them. I think the way to really know your stuff is to read the fine print in the voter guide, as well as the news as well as to reading up on issues that lead up to putting the proposition on the ballot.

Do I really think that I am fully informed on most of these issues ? Not really. And I feel that many voters aren't either. All I can do is just try to keep searching for answers. My legal classes certainly help.

Prop 8 is on the ballot here in California. Voting yes on Prop 8 means that gay marriage would be banned. This is such a hot button here in CA. At first I saw way more signs out telling people to vote "no." But starting this weekend, so many people that want to ban it are out on the streets and encouraging people to vote to ban it. Really interesting issue. I can't wait to see how this plays out. My prediction is that the proposition will probably pass. And if it does, I bet injunctions in court will be filed the very next morning to stop it. I think that the courts will strike this proposition down if it passes. Especially since the Supreme Court here in CA allowed for gay marriage this year under the Equal Protection Clause. My guess is that other groups wouldn't want to even question the Equal Protection Clause. That would be a slippery slope into other groups of people such as minorities and religions, who probably don't want their rights questioned. I think that gay marriage is here to stay. But we shall see.

I also have been getting a laugh at all the commercials on our propositions here in CA. The commercials really try to pull on your heart strings. Especially on adverts for Prop 8. Both sides are really trying to yank at your heart strings.

Anywho, I am done for now. Time to go finish my homework. I also have to fill out my absentee ballot so I can hand it in tomorrow.

Got luck out there y'all, for whomever and whatever you voted for. Get out there and make your vote count.

Happy November :)

Hello Again My Lovelies...........

Wow, the weather is not pleasant today. I talked to my friend Henry today, who lives in New York. Apparently it is warm and sunny over there. He told me to keep my rainy weather over here :( I miss the sunshine, but I know that we need the rain badly. I still don't like rainy weather. Very wet outside.

Speaking of Henry, he sent me Sex in the City movie on DVD and Godiva chocolates and I got the package today. I was so happy ! It really brightened my rainy day and put a smile on my face. I love receiving packages, and this one brightened my day. I got two nice boxes of Godiva chocolates and a Godiva raspberry chocolate bar. I shared a couple of them, but I think that I will horde the rest to myself.

Today I had dance class. It felt so good. I hadn't had practice in about 2 weeks, but I enjoyed the class today. I take my dance lessons at a yoga studio. I would like to get back into performing. My friend asked me to dance for her guests at her house, and I will try to get time off work for that. I miss the costumes, makeup and dance partners. Plus the dance practice sessions are good workouts.

I got into bellydance then I was 21, and I am so glad I did. I stumbled upon it by myself, and it's one of the things that I've held onto. It makes me feel womanly and alive. It is such a feminine form and helps you get in touch with yourself. I have had fads that have come and go, but this is here to stay.

Anywho, that is all for now. Ciao :)
